The Problem
Corporate service providers — fund administrators, company secretarial firms, trust companies — manage hundreds of entities across multiple jurisdictions. Each entity has its own compliance calendar, regulatory obligations, governance requirements, and cascading business events.
A new investment structure in Luxembourg triggers company formation, which triggers director appointments, which triggers KYC checks, which triggers bank account openings — each with their own deadlines, responsible teams, and jurisdiction-specific rules.
This is not a to-do list. It is a web of interconnected, time-sensitive, multi-team, multi-entity, regulation-driven processes where a missed step can mean regulatory sanction.
Why Existing Platforms Fall Short
Off-the-shelf low-code platforms — Power Apps, OutSystems, Mendix, Retool — handle simple data entry applications well. But they cannot natively model hierarchical event cascades where launching a “New Structure” automatically spawns dozens of interconnected tasks across teams and jurisdictions. They don’t support defining an entire API — its security, its data transformations, its business rules — as configuration. And they lock you into their platform.
Custom-built applications provide the flexibility, but at enormous cost. Every API is hand-coded. Every business rule is bespoke logic. Every change requires a developer, a build, and a deployment. The development team becomes a permanent bottleneck.
What Locodium Is
Locodium is a declarative platform for building entire business applications through configuration rather than code. It runs on Microsoft Azure and comprises five interlocking engines:
Intelligent Forms
Sophisticated forms with live calculations, conditional logic, cross-field validation, and a reactive engine that chains dependencies like a spreadsheet.
Expression Engine
A powerful expression language used across the entire platform for dynamic logic, conditions, calculations, and data transformations.
Data Transformation
Reshape data between operations, form submissions, and storage — all defined as configuration, not code.
Workflow Orchestration
Event-driven business processes, scheduling, approvals, and multi-step operations that run reliably over days or weeks.
Declarative APIs
Complete APIs with multi-step operations, conditional execution, transformation hooks, and four-level security — all defined as configuration.
These engines are independent but composable. An API operation can transform data, apply conditional logic, trigger a workflow on completion, and render results through an intelligent form. All defined as configuration. None of it requires writing code.
Configuration All the Way Down
Locodium’s governing principle is that everything is configuration. APIs, pages, forms, types, rules, workflows, navigation, permissions — all stored as structured documents. The application is its own data.
Why This Matters
Change Without Developers
The platform team builds the engines. Application teams build apps by writing configuration. Adding a new API, a new form, a new business rule, or a new workflow requires no compilation, no build pipeline, and no deployment. Just create or modify a configuration document.
Built for AI-Assisted Development
Structured configuration is the ideal target for AI-assisted development. This is already proven — Formulationist generates complete form definitions from conversational descriptions. The same principle extends to APIs, workflows, data mappings, and business rules. AI agents can reliably author and modify well-defined configuration in ways they cannot with traditional code.
Fully Auditable
Every aspect of an application’s behaviour is stored as data. APIs, pages, forms, types, rules, and workflows can be version-controlled, backed up, compared between versions, migrated between environments, and audited. In regulated industries — fund administration, corporate governance, compliance — demonstrating exactly how a process works is not optional.
More Than Low-Code
This is not drag-and-drop page building. Locodium operates at a fundamentally different level:
- An API can be created by another API — the platform is self-modifying
- Forms can edit form definitions — the platform builds the tools that build the applications
- Locodium’s own admin interface is built with Locodium
Power Apps builds apps. Locodium builds platforms that build apps.
Reactive Business Rules
The rules engine adds live business logic:
- Rules — “When all tasks in an event are completed, mark the event as completed”
- Dependencies — “When this field changes, recalculate that field”
- Requirements — “This field must have a value before this step can be signed off”
Combined with multi-step operation chaining — where each step feeds into the next, with conditional execution and data transformation between steps — this creates a pipeline capable of expressing complex business processes entirely as configuration.
Four Levels of Security
API Level
Which operations are accessible
Table Level
Which data sets are accessible
Row Level
Which records a user can see
Column Level
Which fields are visible per record
This is not “role-based access to pages.” It is fine-grained data security where a compliance officer in Luxembourg sees different fields than an accountant in Jersey, looking at the same entity record.
Cascading Event Architecture
Event Templates define process blueprints — “New Company”, “Director Appointment”, “KYC Check”. These are launched as live instances that spawn task lists with dependencies, team assignments, due dates, and cascading sub-events.
One event can launch other events. “New Structure” launches “New Company,” which launches “Governance Appointment,” which launches “KYC Check.” Each with its own task breakdown, responsible teams, jurisdiction-specific rules, and automated completion detection.
This hierarchical orchestration of multi-entity, multi-team, multi-jurisdiction compliance processes is the core value proposition. It is exactly the kind of domain-specific complexity that generic low-code tools cannot model.
Multi-Tenant by Design
Each application gets its own isolated data store, sharing the same platform infrastructure. One deployment serves multiple distinct applications — each with its own data, APIs, forms, and business rules. No per-app infrastructure. No per-app deployment pipeline.
